Mentorship

English Mentors

An Introduction

An English Mentors programme specialises in providing young people with the knowledge and skills that will help them make the transition to adulthood.

It will help them reach their full potential in today’s society and prepare them to deal with major situations which they could encounter in today’s challenging world.

Our mentorship courses have three key objectives:

Educational
The course will include a tailor made one to one tuition course. This may focus on school or university entrance exams, English language tuition or specific subject areas that require attention

Life Skills
Students and their parents choose from a range of modules, which are aimed at assisting with the transition to school to adulthood and include:

  • travelling safely: safety awareness and skills from professional explorers and ex Special Service personnel
  • preparing for the workplace: 'Standing Tall' module in deportment, personal presentation and making a good first impression; CV writing; interview technique; stratetgies and counselling for CV building and obtaining work experience
  • preparing for undergraduate life: student cooking; safety awarenessl; financial awareness and budgeting; time management; how to be a motivated student
  • teambuilding, risk awareness and self reliance through outward bound activities

Sports and Culture
We aim to find an activity, which a student might have tried before or could be completely new, and develop it as a lifelong passion. Modules include: tennis; polo; photography; drama; cookery; riding; English literature; volunteer work; art
