Before I became a tutor I worked for
international news agency Reuters. I have
also written articles for various English
newspapers and magazines (eg. The Sunday
Times, Tatler, The Daily Telegraph). With
Reuters I spent time in the Middle East, and
before that I worked in Hong Kong for Star
Television.
I am well travelled. I have lived in
Germany, Cyprus, and Dubai. I have also made
long trips through Thailand, Malaysia, and
Indonesia. I once trekked through the
Himalayan foothills during the monsoons to
the base of Mount Everest with only a Sherpa
called Gerbil for company. I think
travelling and seeing the world is very
important. I love sport. I am mad keen on
cricket, and soccer. I am also a waterskiing
instructor and have completed the London
Marathon a couple of years ago.
I am equally passionate about music. I
really enjoy tutoring. I find it incredibly
satisfying and exciting - far more so than
anything I have done professionally before.
Making subjects that seemed once difficult
into easily achievable challenges is a
really enjoyable way to make a living. I
believe that in order to teach children well
you have to capture their imaginations and
inspire them, and I think I have an aptitude
for this. I believe that time spent outside
the classroom is as important as time spent
within it. One-on-one tutoring is an
incredibly effective method of teaching.
Progress is made at an exhilarating rate and
can be measured easily. I love to see how my
pupils’ self-confidence swells with the
realisation that what previously seemed
impossible - perhaps long multiplication,
perhaps essay writing - is actually
straightforward and simple when they know
what they are doing. I derive immense
professional pride from their achievements. |
