I am a tutor and a Sesame trained drama and
movement therapist. As well as tutoring
children aged 7-14 years old with special
needs such as dyslexia, ADD and ADHD, I also
provide support for children who are
studying for the 11 and 13 plus
examinations. I have also taught A'Level
English one-to-one for 6 months. I draw on
my experience of 2 years in tutoring, both
privately and in schools, and use a variety
of teaching techniques. I consider the basic
foundations of Maths and English invaluable
when tutoring all children especially those
with special needs. I apply my therapeutic
skills to create a positive learning
experience for the child by including games,
image work, reflective listening and
descriptive praise, constantly supporting
and building on what the child knows. I
tutor the child in the awareness that
learning is both an academic and an
emotional experience.
Alongside my tutoring work I work as a drama
and movement therapist. I am currently
working with adults with profound learning
disabilities and adolescents. I completed an
MA, my second, in the Sesame approach in
January 2003. This approach uses drama and
movement to promote healing and change based
in the knowledge that difficulties can be
revealed through metaphor. Before training
as an Arts therapist I taught English in
Rome for 7 months. I graduated from
Edinburgh University in 2000 with an MA in
English Literature and Italian with a keen
interest in the Arts. I believe that the
Arts have great value in both health and
education.
